Danny Kirk

Choice of Designers™

Danny Kirk has thirty years experience in print. He learned as an apprentice, making up zinc plates and cleaning the machines. It’s part of the reason he understands offset lithography inside and out.

For most of his career he’s specialised in art catalogues for world-class private galleries like White Cube, XXX, and Hauser & Wirth. These are the most exacting clients in print. They know what quality is, and they have a well developed sense of a deadline too. Danny is adept at both.

Danny knows digital print too. Not Indigo, with its disappointing ‘nearly there’ quality, but Fujifilm’s spectacular jet press that continues to revolutionise the quality and cost of short run projects.

Experience in litho and digital aside, Danny also has an intimate experience of finishing. He knows how to get the best from foil, how to add a tinted varnish, which papers lend themselves to a deckled edge, which binders are best for your job, and how to encourage a moody engraver to finish your envelopes properly.

A handful of print professionals can claim to have this kind of experience and skill. But Danny has something else.

Danny understands the preoccupations and concerns of Designers and Art Directors. The significance of kerning and trapping or of ensuring the correct reproduction of a particular blue – and how that can be affected by paper, ink density, or even humidity.

And he has a creative aspect that is very rare too. A way of problem solving that is as open and fluid as a designer’s. Danny’s happiest with a challenging project that requires ingenuity and skill. The kind of project that sends most printers running scared.

Danny has refined his approach working with some of the world’s best. People like OK-RM, William Hall, APFEL, and Why Not Associates all trust him with their work. That’s why he became known as the Choice of Designers™.

To top it all Danny is approachable. He’s very happy to explain any process to the limit of you or your clients’ understanding and interest.
Danny is independent. But his industry experience has delivered him an impressive network of the best in the business.

He will place your job with the printer that is best suited to the project – and will then follow that job to ensure it is completed to his high standards.

Danny takes care of your project like you would if you had thirty years print experience.

He’s not the cheapest in the world, but in print cheapness rarely equates with quality. And in any case, for this exceptional service there is no cost, since Danny’s fee is incorporated in the print cost. [REMOVE]

The printers Danny uses love working with him too. They know files will be ushered in by him in good condition, and he’ll make them look good. It’s win, win, win.
‘I've found a problem working with Danny over the last decade: every other printer disappoints me. He understands a designer's perspective. He is knowledgeable, reachable, diligent and exacting. When things go wrong (which they sometimes do when you're trying something new) Danny appears with ideas and enthusiasm.’ William Hall, William Hall Work
